Natural Remedies for Eczema

There is a solution to getting rid of your eczema!   Treating the symptoms will help with relief and temporarily keep eczema at bay but beating eczema for good means you will need a complete program.   A safe, natural eczema cure will treat the cause and help you understand why your skin is reacting this way.  There is a reason why you have eczema and you need to get to the bottom of it in order to get rid of it!

Relieve Eczema - 5 tips to stay comfortable

1.    For itchiness, apply cool, damp compresses.   A cool compress is a cloth dipped in cold water that is wrung out and applied directly to the skin that itches. When first placed on the skin, the itching or pain may become more intense, however this soon subsides.  This will help relieve inflammation and itching.  Try a thin layer of petroleum jelly onto the skin before applying the cool compress so that you moisturize the skin too.

2.    Don't scratch -- scratching can cause scarring, infection, increased pigmentation, and thickening of the skin. Instead, gently pat the skin with your fingers (as opposed to the palm of your hand) as this is more effective.

3.  Avoid hot water showers and baths if your skin is inflamed.  Reduce the temperature of your shower or bath from hot to warm or even cool.   Also, avoid overheated rooms as this can aggravate irritated skin.

4.   Avoid soaps and detergents.  This is a big one!  Not enough can be said about the harsh chemicals found especially in soaps and detergents, and if you have eczema this will definitely make it worse. Normal soap is alkaline and can further dry out your skin. Soap and detergent-based shampoos should be avoided, and instead soap and shampoo substitutes should be used, or even try a more natural aqua based cream instead of soap.  (Even though it seems a bit strange to wash with a moisturizing cream, it is very beneficial).  Bath oils can also be helpful, but once again seek out a natural product.  Always try the more natural remedies for eczema.

5.   Moisturizing your skin is one of the easiest and most important measures in preventing itching and scratching, as well as reducing eczema flare-ups. Be careful to avoid eczema creams and  moisturizers that contain perfumes and preservatives which can irritate the skin.  Moisturizers should be applied at least twice a day all over the skin.  The best time to apply the moisturizer is straight after a shower or bath to help seal in the moisture from bathing.

‘Prevention is better than cure’ – this phrase has a significant place in eczema natural treatment. This is the most essential step that incorporates in treating eczema quite profoundly. This includes lifestyle change, healthy diet, body cleansing, exercise, and natural therapies.

Heredity plays a significant role in the predisposition of eczema. So if there is an eczema patient in the family, the parents must know that the children are on high risk. However, proper prevention may lead to lower the risk for developing eczema. Studies show that breast milk plays a crucial role in the prevention of eczema. Doctors suggest that a baby must live on breast feeding for at least up to 6 months to one year along with solid food. It lowers the risk of eczema.

Babies with family history for eczema must be protected from potential allergens and irritants.Maintain Healthy Diet

Food is important to keep us moving and healthy. But some foods may trigger the problem of eczema. Most of these foods are well-known to us such as cow’s milk, egg, wheat, soy, corn, and food additives and preservatives. If certain foods play significant role in triggering eczema in your case, you may experience eczema reaction within 2 to 24 hours after having the food.

The food tolerance is also a significant factor that contributes to the occurrence of eczema. “One man’s bread, another man’s dead” – so not all healthy diet is meant to be healthy for you. You need to understand your tolerance level to a particular food, whether you are intolerant or allergic to it. You may be intolerant or oversensitive to some foods; however that doesn’t mean that you are allergic to them as well. While selecting your diet, you should consider the tolerance level, especially if you are suffering from eczema.Body Cleansing

Body cleansing is very important to maintain healthy body and mind. It is also an integral part of eczema natural treatment. Our internal organs consist of a lot of toxic substances. Internal toxic substances may also cause different types of illnesses including skin rashes and eczema. So body cleansing is essential for both adults and children.

    Natural Treatment for Eczema

Natural remedies for eczema such as those outlined in Beat Eczema, have proven very successful in eliminating eczema. Eczema cannot be healed overnight, but if you follow this system you will definitely be on the road to curing your eczema for good.

The skin is the largest organ of the body – if something is wrong within, it will manifest outside. I know for myself, every time I got overly stressed, I suffered from terrible eczema – it was so bad, especially on my hands, they were almost raw. I would scratch and scratch at night in my sleep because the itch was so unbearable, leaving red, sore, almost-bleeding hands in the morning. If this is you – scratching at night, keep your fingernails short and perhaps even wear a pair of gloves to bed – they would need to be cotton or a fabric that can “breathe”.

Not only do you need to be treating your eczema but did you know that you need to be treating your environment too?  The first thing you need to do is remove harsh detergents and chemicals from your home, reduce or remove anything in your environment that will worsen the situation. Creams are the usual prescription for eczema, but bear in mind prolonged use of such chemical-filled creams in the long term can cause unpleasant side effects such as thinning of the skin. If you absolutely have to use these medicated creams, use sparingly.

Get rid of eczema for good with natural remedies for eczema

Start with a few simple changes, such as:

    • Seek out as-close-to-natural products as possible – shampoos, handcreams, dishwashing liquids, laundry detergents, etc.  Start reading labels – too many chemicals and harsh ingredients are eczema’s enemy!
    • Keep your environment clean – often with eczema there is broken skin which is more susceptible to germs causing further possible flare-ups which can be worse than the eczema itself.
    • Drink plenty of water to help keep skin hydrated. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day and this will also help flush out toxins.
    • Watch everything your skin comes into contact with and – even fabric softeners on clean clothes can cause unnecessary irritability – so preferably do not use fabric softeners while eczema is present.

Natural remedies for eczema are always safer – there is less concern of experiencing side effects of medications with harsh ingredients and nature’s way is always the best way.

Eczema or dermatitis is characterized by dry, itchy, inflamed skin and sometimes blisters and lesions may also appear.
